How It Works
Our Facebook Engagement Rate Calculator measures how actively your audience interacts with your Page posts, with two calculation methods: by page followers (for comparing pages) and by post reach (for measuring content quality).
- Enter your average post metrics: reactions, comments, and shares per post.
- Enter your follower count and average reach. Needed for both calculation methods.
- Choose your calculation method. By followers (industry standard for brand evaluations) or by reach (better for content strategy since Facebook limits organic reach).
- Get your engagement rate. Rated against your follower tier benchmark with a niche comparison.
By Followers vs. By Reach: Which to Use
The follower-based method (interactions ÷ followers × 100) is the industry standard that brands use when evaluating pages for partnerships. Use this when comparing your page to competitors or tracking your overall page health. The reach-based method (interactions ÷ reach × 100) is better for content strategy. It tells you what percentage of people who actually saw your post chose to interact with it, regardless of your total follower count. Reach-based rates are typically much higher since Facebook organic reach is very limited.
Why Facebook Engagement Rates Are Low
Facebook engagement rates are the second-lowest among major social platforms, averaging about 0.15% across all pages in 2026. For comparison, Instagram averages about 0.98% and TikTok averages about 4.25%. This is primarily because Facebook’s algorithm limits organic reach for Pages to just 2–6% of followers. The platform has shifted toward a pay-to-play model where brands need to boost posts to reach their full audience. Despite this, Facebook remains valuable due to its massive user base and strong monetization tools.
Facebook Reactions vs. Likes
Our calculator uses “Reactions” as the primary metric, which includes all six Facebook reaction types: Like, Love, Haha, Wow, Sad, and Angry. All reactions count equally in the engagement formula, which is the industry standard. However, Facebook’s algorithm does give slightly more weight to non-Like reactions (especially Love) as they signal stronger emotional engagement.
Facebook Engagement Rate by Page Size (2026)
Facebook engagement rates are the lowest of any major platform, and they fall sharply as a Page grows because organic reach collapses at scale. Find your Page size below to see what a healthy follower-based engagement rate looks like in 2026.
| Page Tier | Followers | Typical Engagement Rate |
|---|---|---|
| Nano Page | Under 10K | 1.5%–3% |
| Micro Page | 10K–50K | 0.8%–1.8% |
| Mid-Tier Page | 50K–200K | 0.5%–1.2% |
| Macro Page | 200K–1M | 0.2%–0.8% |
| Mega Page | 1M+ | 0.05%–0.3% |
Follower-based rate = (reactions + comments + shares) ÷ followers × 100. The Facebook-wide average across all Pages is roughly 0.15% in 2026. Because organic reach is so low, many marketers also track engagement as a percentage of reach.
Facebook Engagement Rate by Niche (2026)
Some content categories beat the platform average by a wide margin. Education, animals, and sports Pages pull the highest interaction rates on Facebook, while fashion and beauty sit lower. Compare your rate against the average for your niche, not just the platform-wide number.

|---|---|
| Education | 0.33% |
| Animals & Pets | 0.28% |
| Sports | 0.22% |
| Arts & Culture | 0.18% |
| Food & Drink | 0.18% |
| Design & Architecture | 0.15% |
| Health & Fitness | 0.15% |
| Finance & Business | 0.12% |
| Entertainment | 0.12% |
| Beauty & Skincare | 0.1% |
| Travel | 0.1% |
